I saw how difficult it could be for people to afford private therapy. This was especially true for those paying completely out of pocket.
Therefore, I have worked to accept as many insurance policies as possible. This helps more people access the therapy they need.
I also worked in the school system for more than a decade. During that time, I saw how difficult it was for school counselors to meet every child’s mental health needs.
As a result, I earned my certification as a registered play therapist. This allows me to provide additional support for children who need more than what they can receive during the school day.
One of my favorite moments is hearing a client or parent say they no longer need me. I find joy in seeing people gain the tools and confidence they need to live healthy, independent lives.
I am also proud to provide a safe and supportive workplace. I encourage new therapists to work with me while they complete the hours needed for their licenses.
I do not believe therapists should compete over clients. Instead, I believe there is a great need for therapy. The more therapists who become licensed, the more people we can help.
Starting a business on your own can be scary. You are responsible for earning money and handling legal issues.
In addition, people may tell you that business will start slowly. They may say you will not be very busy. I know they were trying to help, but I had to quiet those voices.
Instead, I chose to trust the path I believed was right for me. I prayed for a year before taking the leap of faith.
When you feel called to do something, trust the process. Then, take the opportunity and move forward.
I quickly realized how much work goes into running a business. I wanted to focus on serving my community. However, I also had to track income, record expenses, and prepare for tax season.
